About the Guest House

The History

Just hours before the first American boots touched the beaches of Normandy, over 6,000 U.S. paratroopers dropped into the darkness above the Merderet River. Taking La Fière Bridge was their first objective — and for four brutal days, the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division held it against everything the enemy could deliver. Because they did not let go, this bridge allowed 150,000 soldiers to move inland. And Europe moved toward freedom.

At our guesthouse, you can stand on that ground.

The Setting

Geographically within Normandy, La Fière is positioned at the center of the American D-Day sector, with Utah Beach ten miles to the east and the legendary town of Sainte-Mère-Église – the first French town liberated on June 6, 1944 – is at your doorstep.

Just outside your window, the Iron Mike memorial — a towering bronze paratrooper honoring the 82nd Airborne's fallen — stands watch over the same fields where those men fought and died in June 1944. The Merderet moves quietly below, its banks green and still.

The Experience

La Fière offers five premium rooms inside a beautifully restored stone house, fully staffed and appointed with carefully chosen war memorabilia. This guesthouse is a living headquarters — elegant, atmospheric and alive with the importance of what happened here.

What Sets Us Apart

The House

Five premium rooms. A fully staffed residence. A house that is part of world history.

La Fière Bridge Guest House stands on the site of an 11th-century stone mill, directly on the Merderet River near Sainte-Mère-Église. Acquired by Patton Patrimony and fully restored in 2022, the property brings together an international group of owners from the U.S., The Netherlands and Germany — united by a shared commitment to honoring this place and welcoming guests who appreciate its significance.

More than Comfort

La Fière draws those who seek more than comfort — though comfort is abundant here. Corporate leadership groups choose La Fière for retreats that ground ambition in perspective. Military heritage travelers come to bear witness. Families come to stand where history turned and to feel it.

Whatever brings you here, we are certain you will leave inspired.
